What a successful Week

This week our voices have been heard. We have found out that our Duffy Books in Home Video was a winner and Miss Gorrie gets to go to Auckland for a day, hopefully bringing us back some goodies and a video of her experience. She shouted us a morning tea.

We have also been recognised for our learning. Check out this blog post by the Inventor of CSI Neale Pitches.

Determination

We have recently finished the novel The Silver Sword. It was a powerful tale of four children who traveled from Poland to Switerland facing many troubles along the way. The share determination of these children to be reunited with their parents was evident throughout the novel and we were amazed at how war can split a family in a second.

Over the past few weeks we have been discusing values that help us to succeed in life, determination is key. It must come from the mind, being able to think in a positive manner, having a goal and being determined to reach it.

Today we discussed Valerie Vili road to success at the Bejing Olympics. Using our infering skills we were able to make predictions about her and how she managed to succeed in the Olympics. Her mind played a powerful role. Over the past week we have been learning to visualise while we are reading to help us understand the text and we have linked this with Valerie and see this as a possible tool that she could of used to make sure that she succeeded.

For us as students it is reinforcing the need to be determined to succeed. Even though we are using visualising to help us understand what we read we can also use it to help us succeed in life.

All Whites Dream Over!

This morning we have been discussing values and the importance of these on our lives. We have been discussing the values that the All Whites had in order to get where they did in the World Cup.

We have decided that these are essential for us to succeed in life:
* Think about the potential we have
* Belief in ourselves and others around us
* Respect for yourself and others
* Graditude for others and things that come your way
* Dedication

We have posted a comment to the stuff article

Twiducate

Today was so exciting! Social Networking in school who would think. Today we learnt about using sites like twitter, facebook and bebo properley using a really cool website could Twiducate. We recommend everyone using it. Our teacher can see all of our profiles and we are not live to the public, but we can post to each other without the world seeing. We have discussed why we need to use standard english and the types of posts that we may create. HI is not a good post.

Here are some of our thoughts on why it should be used in the classroom.

Anne Frank

To help us understand the impact of Anne Frank's writing we went to Te Papa to have a look at the exhibition. For many of us it was the first time on a train, first time at Te Papa, first time on a cable car. We had a blast.

We have learnt so much about the impact of Anne's writing on the world, and what life was like for her. We have been busy creating documentaries of our discoveries. Watch this space and our e-portfolios.

Weekly Reflection 1.3.10

Guess What?
Our goal was to listen to each other when we are talking in our groups. Well we haven’t quite reached our goal yet. Some people are still talking over others. The things that stood in our way were that everyone had things that they wanted to share, this week we are going to take turns at talking by going around in our groups.

What?
Relay, Tramp, Marshmallow Pit, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Porridge Race, Team Building, Touch, ate lollies, went for a run, balloon game, skits, Art, Movie maker, audacity to mix music, spot light, cricket, glow worms, sleeping.
So What?
We have learnt confidence when in group situations. It has helped us become a more effective learner because we can talk to others, ask for help, to take up future opportunities, build your leadership.

Now What?
We are still working on listening to each other. Next week we are going to take turns.

Meet Some Of Our Students

Over the past two week we have been identifying behaviours that represent the Habits of Mind. We know that these behaviours create successful people. We also reliase that we need to always be working on these habits to make sure that they remain a habit and we can transfer them into different situations. So here are some of our goals for the year.

End of Week

Guess What
Digi Donuts had a range of different goals throughout the week. Some were achieved some still need working on.

What
This week was busy with Technology, Buddy Class, Assembly and learning our way around the digital world.

So What
We started to learn the habits of the mind. This will help us to be effective learners as they encourage us to step out of our comfort zones and seek help from others, talk with each other, use what we know to learn new things and know when is the right time to use humour. To name a few.

Now What
Our goals all vary but have a habit of mind that we need to know.

  1. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
  2. One person talking at a time.
  3. Only use my password and don't seek others.
  4. Laptops are available from 8.30am as long as Miss Gorrie is in the room.
  5. Always use standard English in the classroom and all my school work.
  6. Be responsible and encourage others to take on responsibility.
  7. Share with our peers and the world, being aware of what we post.
  8. Check with Miss Gorrie before I post.
  9. Have a laugh and enjoy my time at school.

If I forget an ingredient this is what will happen:

  1. No i-play
  2. Lunchtime detention 100 lines.
  3. Sent to Whaea Maryanne.
  4. Meeting with parents/ caregivers, Miss Gorrie, Mr Schmdit or Mrs Mason.

Day 1

An exciting first day. Make a wish for learning was a feature today, with students releasing over 450 balloons into the sky containing their wish for the year. Along with making a wish we were busy discovering what it is to be digitally safe and how we were going to work as a team together.
It is going to be an exciting year!
